The Main Camp in 1960 at Kota Belud

Bismillah.

This 1959 map of Kota Belud are is a real find. From the boatman who used to tow the pontoons from Usakan Bay to the main camp in 1960 situated at about 3.5 miles from Kota Belud.

This is where all the machinery was kept carry out the work on the Tamparuli road, there was also a small airstrip alongside on the plain. Also it was where the two bodies lay until their burial at Paradise Camp across the Tempasuk.

Above, The small airstrip alongside was called ‘Allen Field’. Surely it’s a track/road as it appears to be on a on a ridge

They brought all the equipment up the river on pontoons from Usakan Bay to the drop of point. The distance to the tented area was about 600 -800 metres up a slight incline rising only 2 metres.
